Mike Smith, a CPA since 1972, holds a BS degree in business from the University of Richmond. He has advised family businesses, their shareholders and employees for over thirty years. He has served as Chief Financial Officer and Controller in several industries, providing executive direction in financial reporting, tax, insurance, employee benefits, and all areas of personal finance.

His interests continually gravitated to personal finance and he earned the Certified Financial Planner™ and the CPA Personal Financial Specialist designations in 1996. Mike is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of CPA’s.

A Certified Financial Planner™ professional, Mike has completed a rigorous course of education and met the exacting experience and continuing education requirements set forth by the CFP Board of Standards.

Mike and his wife, Jo, are the proud parents of three adult children. He is an avid sports fan with special interests in NASCAR racing, Major League Baseball and college basketball. When he can dodge Jo’s to-do lists, he likes to garden, play golf and play bridge.
